Leclerc spoke about minimizing losses in the fight against McLaren. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc shared his opinion about fifth place at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and said that the Scuderia continues to fight with McLaren.
In Brazil, taking into account the sprint, Ferrari scored seven points less than the season leaders.
The pace was simply not there - except in qualifying. In qualifying it wasn`t too bad with the new tires and low fuel load, but we weren`t going anywhere in the race.
But an even bigger problem was that the car was very difficult to control. It was extremely difficult to avoid making mistakes and, looking at the big picture, the only small positive for us was that we finished ahead of the two McLarens and only lost a few points. We did a great job of minimizing losses that weekend when our opponents seemed very strong.
Our cars were probably more difficult to control than some others. Partially my fault - we chose specific settings. It was very difficult. Even in qualifying it was not easy, but in the race it was incredibly difficult at some point. It was extremely easy to fly off the track and make a big mistake. This happened to me in turn four, but fortunately I only lost one position.
We need to analyze it, because at the start of the season - for example, in Canada - we were very strong in the rain. Now everything turned out to be wrong, " said the Monegasque.
Leclerc also spoke about the wrong strategy:
There are three riders on the podium who did not make mistakes. They deserve it. We made a mistake with the first pit stop. We went into the pits early because I wanted to drive in clean air, but unfortunately the entry and exit times were longer than we expected in the rainy conditions. So I ended up in traffic with Ollie [Burman] and Lewis [Hamilton] and we lost a lot. And then we lost three more positions behind the safety car. But that happens in races like this.
